title:Decode 05 artist:Hitotzuki / ヒトツキ year:2021 media:paint on can and paper / 缶と紙にペイント size:15.5 x 38.2 x 4.2 cm HITOTZUKIは、独自に作家活動をしていたアーティストのKAMIとSASUが1999年に結成したユニットです。 HITOTZUKI is a unit formed in 1999 by artists KAMI and SASU, who had been working independently as artists. HITOTZUKI's style is a mix of KAMI's strong and clear lines, inspired by the trajectory of skateboarding and growing up in the street culture, and SASU's pop colors and symmetrical shapes, influenced by 80's subcultures such as Sanrio and human psychology. The style of HITOTZUKI has been leading the Japanese street art scene with its solid presence, coexisting a gorgeous and dynamic individuality with an intimate and warm perspective toward the world. HITOTZUKI's main production bases are the exterior walls of buildings and the interior spaces of buildings. Their works, which integrate with the surrounding landscape, have been highly acclaimed in Europe and the United States, where murals are accepted as art, as well as in Asia and other areas of the world, and have created many new landscapes. In recent years, even in Japan, citizens have raised funds through crowdfunding to commission huge murals, and the works have sometimes functioned as local identities. The title of this exhibition, "DECODE," which means to decipher or decode, will present a group of new works extracted from the reality of HITOTZUKI’s production sites to "decipher" the present. As HITOTZUKI moves from place to place, they are always accompanied by paint, brushes, and curing sheets, all of which are indispensable for mural painting. For HITOTZUKI, they are not just consumable items, but "comrades" with whom he works, and even used paint cans and ink stains are products that show the trajectory of their work together and have the same value and reality as the artworks. for more information : http://snowcontemporary.com/artist/hitotzuki.html Please do not proceed with the payment if you live outside of the EMS transportable area (https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/ems/country/all_en.html). title:clay mask artist:Jumbo Suzuki / ジャンボスズキ year:2020 media:oil on canvas size: H65 × W50 cm 1980年生まれのジャンボスズキは、2007 年名古屋造形大学美術学科卒業後、2008 年「VOCA 展」 (上野の森美術館)、2010 年「TDW-ARTジャラパゴス展」(Tokyo Designers Week / 明治神宮外苑絵画館前)、2011 年「Art in an Office」(豊田市美術館)等数々のグループ展に出品し、着実に力をつけてきたペインターです。 Jumbo Suzuki’s work is full of mysteries and cannot be comprehended easily. All the “things” are coexisting in one painting regardless of the questions of materiality, space and time. Against a uniform and monochrome background, not only mysterious “things” are set here and there, but a different texture is painted inside these “things”, and for most of the cases, the form does not match with the texture as it should do. Jumbo Suzuki’s work seems slightly off-set and betrays the principle of “substance” as we all know it. The abruptness and the queerness of this combination of textures and forms contain something sinister and provoke a somehow uncomfortable feeling in the perception of the viewer. Moreover, as there is no intermediate or medium to give the observer a hint about how to understand why those things are painted on a same surface, naturally we try to search our own memories and to use our imagination and perceptions in order to read the work. for more information : http://snowcontemporary.com/artist/jumbo_suzuki.html Please do not proceed with the payment if you live outside of the EMS transportable area (https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/ems/country/all_en.html). Since then, Hino has continuously attempted to expand his practice into varied genres and media including still life, landscape, watercolor, colored pencil drawing, sculpture, and more others. Hino speaks that he drew a number of portraits and still lifes while studying in University of Tsukuba. Perhaps the unique world in his recent works, which lies right on the boundary between the reality and the unreality, were possible by the drawing skills he acquired through repetitive trainings he had been continuing since university. Since receiving the VOCA Prize in 2005, Hino has consistently acquired attention for his unique conspicuous portraits that come from a wide variety of motifs, which most of them depict the artist’s own body. Hino explains the reason why he challenged to depict models this time was because he put his utmost importance on “sensing the presence of a real human being right in front of my eyes.” He also commented that when he created sculptures in 2015, he noticed that humans bodies looked differently when seen from a different distance even when seen from the same angle, which inspired him to create model portraits on this occasion. As he explained that he had been “constantly exploring distinctive images through deforming facial and body features in past portraits, and these new works had given him the sense of discovery of a new standard in deformation of a human body,” his interest was drawn to how the subject matter can be seen differently depending on the distance between the model and himself. The elements of the model, which look different depending on the distance—for example a few meters away when looking down at the whole body, and approaching closer when observing details—are integrated into one figure. As a result, the texture of the skin, the hair, the shape of the body and the reflection of the eyes are drawn more clearly, and the identity such as the emotion and individuality of the model is eliminated as in the previous works, and approaches closer to the very existence of the human body more than ever. for more information : http://snowcontemporary.com/artist/hino_korehiko.html Please do not proceed with the payment if you live outside Japan. Hino’s drawings, which could be seen as the very foundation of the artist’s creation, have not been simple sketches of his oil paintings yet respective artworks on their own, and have been acclaimed as highly as his oil paintings. This work shows a peculiar composition which captures a man standing on a high place from below. In 2015, when Hino was working on his sculpture works, he noticed how a human body could be seen differently as the distance changes, and came up of utilizing the perspective in his two-dimensional work. Hino has examined depiction of the body by thoroughly removing the elements to identify the person including gender, age, social status, generations, and emotions throughout his oeuvre. for more information : http://snowcontemporary.com/artist/hino_korehiko.html Please do not proceed with the payment if you live outside of the EMS transportable area (https://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/ems/country/all_en.html).
