title:TRSM #5 (Tone Riverside Market) artist:Tohru Matsushita / 松下徹 year:2018 media:Household paint on plywood size:37.5 × 34.5 × 1.6 cm 松下徹は1984年に神奈川県に生まれ、2010年に東京藝術大学先端芸術表現科大学院を卒業。松下はアメリカで過ごした高校生活の中でグラフィティ文化に触れて以来、グラフィティやストリートアートとそれらの文化に接続される表現の歴史を調査し、作品制作に反映させています。 在学中の2008年に展覧会を超えて運動へとつながっていく、若手アーティストたちが多数参加した「FRESH」を企画、その後は都市でどう生きて表現していくかをテーマにした「トウキョウアーバンアーート」(2011年)を皮切りに、現在の活動の核となるアーティストコレクティブ「SIDE CORE」を高須咲恵と共に2012年に発足します。現在的な問題意識に根ざした運動を巻き起こす活動をする一方、松下個人の制作は歴史の中の運動へと参加する絵画活動へ向けられています。 Tohru Matsushita, born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1984, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Graduates school of Inter Media Art in 2010. Matsushita, since encountering graffiti culture when he was a high school student in the US, has kept research on graffiti, street cultures and histories of the representations associated with these cultures and reflected these experiences in his works. In 2008, as a college student, Matsushita conducted the project ”FRESH” that changed from an exhibition into a movement with many young artists, then launched “Tokyo Urban Arrrrt”(2011) that put a question how we live and create works in a city, and established an artist collective ”SIDE CORE” with Sakie Takasu in 2012. title:Dear Deer year:2015 media:Collage on Paper *framed / 額装付き sheet size:H28.3 × W20.4 cm *本作は展示風景画像内の左から2番目の作品となります。/ This work will be the 2nd work from the left in the exhibition image. 現在、ニューヨークを拠点に活動するHisham Akira Bharoocha (ヒシャム アキラ バルーチャ)は、日本人の母とビルマ人の父を持ち、幼い頃から家族とともに東京、トロント、ロサンゼルス、サンディエゴと、様々な街を移り住んできました。その後、1998年にニューヨークのロードアイランド・スクール・オブ・デザインを卒業します。在学中から音楽やビジュアルアート、デザイン、ファッション、写真など様々なフィールドで活躍してきたBharoochaの作品は、インスタレーションからペインティング、コラージュ、写真と多岐にわたります。緻密にコントロールされた色彩の重なりと線が作りだすスペースによって構成されるパターンを背景に、意表をついた自由な空想世界のモチーフが独自の躍動感を持ち、観る者の身体感覚にリズムを刻むBharoochaの世界観は、無意識のイメージや過去の体験、夢と現実が混在しており、Bharoocha自身の幼少時の思い出や、音楽や写真、ウォールペインティングなど身体性を伴う様々な分野で活動している経験から培われたのであろうことが伺えます。 Hisham Akira Bharoocha, who currently resides in New York, was born between a Japanese mother and a Burmese father. He has relocated in different cities including Tokyo, Toronto, Los Angeles and San Diego with his family since his childhood. In 1998, Bharoocha received his B.F.A. at Rhode Island School of Design, New York. Creating works of wide-ranging media including installation, paintings, collages and photographs, he has actively worked in different fields such as music, visual art, design, fashion, and photography from when he was in university. In Bharoocha’s works, unexpected motifs from the artist’s world of fantasy create their own dynamism, and cultivate rhythms on the viewers’ sensual bodies with the precisely controlled patterns composed of layers of colors. He also published Bijutsuka ni naruniwa (How to Become an Artist) (2002, Naruniwa BOOKS) and Cloer Perspectives on Art (2010, BankART), collecting his exhibition reviews published on a web magazine "artscape" for a decade since 1999. He currently serves as the principal at BankART School along with writing art reviews on the Asahi Shimbun and the Hokkaido Shimbun Press. He has made significant contributions to the art world in Japan over years. While known as a journalist from the critic side, Murata restarted making his own works as an artist 12 years ago, three decades after his graduation from an art college. He started his artistic activity with painting Vermeer’s “picture in picture.” Since then, he has presented works such as “Tofu Painting” where he used the canvas itself to resemble a tofu, a grilled tofu or a deep-fried bean curd after examining “Tofu” by Yuichi Takahashi, and the “Series of Great Masters” and the “Art of Painting” series, where he painted covers of art books on the canvas to resemble the books themselves. [右 / image right] 作品現物の画像 / An image of the actual work 1982年生まれの竹内は、2008年東京藝術大学美術学部先端芸術表現科を卒業し、現在は福島県を拠点に活動しています。竹内はこれまで、ふくいちライブカメラのモニターに突如現れた指差し作業員の代理人として災害を見る側の意識と匿名表現者の自意識を浮き彫りにした「公然の秘密」(2012 / SNOW Contemporary、東京) や、遺物を中心に刻まれた記憶を辿った「影を食う光」(2013 / 森美術館、福島)、手(=携帯機器)で情報を取得する我々の風景をとらえた「手の目」(2014 / SNOW Contemporary、東京)、福島県いわき市の図書館で出会った書籍に掲載された石碑巡りをトレースすることでメディアの性質と人の記憶の有り様を示した「写真は石碑を石にする、それでも人は」(2017 / SNOW Contemporary)など、緻密なリサーチを元に、絵画や彫刻、写真、インスタレーションなど一定の表現方法にこだわらない多岐にわたるメディアによる展示を展開し、記憶や記録に転換する際のメディアの在り方や受け手の意識を浮き彫りにしてきました。 Takeuchi was born in 1982, and received B.F.A. at Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Fine Arts, Intermedia Art in 2008. In his previous activities, Takeuchi has highlighted consciousness of viewers of the disaster as well as self-consciousness of anonymous performers by suddenly appeared in front of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant live monitoring camera as an agent of a Finger Pointing Worker in his solo exhibition "Open Secret" (2012 / SNOW Contemporary, Tokyo), or traced buried memories including artifacts in "Sight Consuming Shadows" (2013 / Mori Art Museum, Fukushima), or captured our landscapes in which we acquire information from our hand (=mobile phone) in "Eyes on Hand" (2014 / SNOW Contemporary, Tokyo).
